Compton Place Stables, Eastbourne – Phase One

Conversion of Stables to Offices

The project brief was to create new office space, meeting room and welfare facilities within the south side of the Courtyard Stable Buildings of this historic property. Hawk worked closely with the local authority Conservation Officer to ensure all works were completed in accordance with their wishes.

The existing large timber doors to the entrance archway were repaired and complimented by the installation of a new glazed screen to form the entrance area to the offices. Externally, flints were replaced and re-pointing completed to repair damaged areas. Internally, existing fixtures and fittings such as stable doors, stable dividing screens, tethering rings and drinking bowls were retained in existing positions.

The offices were fitted with a suspended timber floor over the existing sloping tiled stable floors, walls were dry lined and suspended ceilings installed with LED lighting. Each area was supported by a new wet heating system and finished with decorations and floor finishes.
